The Python life cycle describes the complete process of how a Python program is written, executed, and managed from start to finish. It explains what happens internally when you run a Python script.

1. Writing the Python Code
The life cycle begins when a developer writes Python code using a text editor or an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) such as VS Code, PyCharm, or Jupyter Notebook. The code is saved in a file with a .py extension.
This step focuses on writing clean, readable, and logical Python instructions.
2. Compilation to Bytecode
When the Python program is executed, the interpreter first checks the code for syntax errors. If the syntax is correct, the code is compiled into an intermediate form known as bytecode.
This bytecode is platform-independent and is automatically stored in a .pyc file inside the __pycache__ folder.
3. Interpretation by Python Virtual Machine (PVM)
The generated bytecode is then passed to the Python Virtual Machine (PVM). The PVM interprets the bytecode line by line and converts it into machine-level instructions.
These instructions are executed by the underlying operating system and hardware.
4. Execution of the Program
The PVM executes the instructions, and the program produces the required output. During execution, Python automatically manages memory, creates variables, and handles garbage collection.
This automatic management makes Python easier to use compared to low-level languages.
5. Error Handling
If any runtime errors occur during execution, Python raises exceptions. These exceptions generate error messages that help developers quickly identify and fix issues in the code.
Python’s clear error reporting is one of its biggest strengths.
6. Program Termination
Once the program finishes execution, Python releases the allocated memory and terminates the process. Any unused objects are cleaned up automatically by Python’s garbage collection mechanism.
